Wrong Site Name in SERP

    Hello everyone !

I’m facing an issue and I really don’t know how to solve this.

My site name is not the right one in the SERP. In General – Settings this is set to “Oasis” and in RM – Titles & Meta – Local SEO this is also set to “Oasis”.

Moreover, I have added a “Website” Snippet via GTM with a forced site name, but it doesnt work.
There is nothing in the source code which can help me with this, and nothing in my WPML either.

    Thanks !

  • Hello there,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support. Apologies for any inconvenience this issue might have caused.

I understand that you want to change the site name that appears in the Google search results.

This feature is called Site Name and it’s something that Google is experimenting with.

Google uses different sources to figure out and show your Site Name on SERPs

    • og:site_name
    • Website structured data (Schema)
    • Content in title elements
    • Heading elements, like H1

Among them, Rank Math automatically includes og:site_name, meta tag and the Website Schema on your page. You can also check the Google documentation on site-name: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names

However, as mentioned in the documentation, this process is automated by the algorithm and even though it takes into account the information on the website, it is still not guaranteed that your site name will come up correctly in Google SERPs since it’s solely decided by Google what they found relevant and user-friendly and which one they want to show.

Consider customizing your website’s schema, see https://rankmath.com/kb/rich-snippets/ or using a custom schema see https://rankmath.com/kb/schema-templates/.

Hope this helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for using Rank Math.

Hello and thank you for this answer.

It just confirms that it doesnt make sense why my sitename is “Trouve ton Oasis” for all the english pages.

It seems like Google takes the French sitename and applies it everywhere, without taking in consideration everything else lol.

Can you maybe check further the website ? oasis.ca/en/

    Thanks

    Hello,

When I search the URL in the SERP, I am only seeing one sitename which is the domain name as you can see in the screenshot below:

    Rank Math support

In this case, Google chooses a different sitename for different search phrases.

Can you please let us know what search keyword you are trying to search on the Search field of Google?

    Looking forward to helping you.

Hello and thank you for your reply.

Yeah it shows the domain name in the site_name when you do the site:, but for exemple if you search “cocktails oasis.ca”, it will show an english page that talks about cocktails, and the sitename is in French.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

Upon checking the link, it seems that the alternateName is not yet included in your schema.

You can set that in Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Local SEO > Alternate Name for Rank Math to include it on your schema since Google recommends it for troubleshooting mentioned here:
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names#troubleshooting

Also, ensure that the Local SEO Module is enabled on your Rank Math > Dashboard.

Once done, give Google some time to recrawl your site and check if it updates the correct site name on the search results pages.

    Looking forward to helping you.

I have added the Alternate Name as you said. I hope it will fix the issue.

The Local SEO Module was already activated.
