WordPress Multisite, hreflang setup

    Hello team:)

I have a website, but I don’t understand how I need to configure my google sitemaps (hreflang) so that google understands that each of the websites belong to a different region

cityinlens.com – America, Great Britain and other English-speaking countries
    cityinlens.com/de – Germany
    cityinlens.com/pl – Poland

I mean, how do you divide a site properly according to Google’s rules 😅

    Warm regards ☕️
    Alexander Y.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and bringing your concern to our attention.

Our plugin by default adds the URLs of the main language and the rest is handled by the translation plugin, which in this case is Translatepress.

The Translatepress plugin should add the hreflang tag to the pages to indicate what other variations exist for any given page/post on the website.

This method is also acceptable by Google for multilingual websites as you can see here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/specialty/international/managing-multi-regional-sites

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.

    Hi)
I was reading this google link you sent yesterday (*)

But I think this method doesn’t work for me, as I use WordPress Multisite and I have different sitemaps for each language version.

    https://cityinlens.com = EN (main version)
    https://cityinlens.com/pl = Poland (subdirectory)
    https://cityinlens.com/de = Germany (subdirectory)

I don’t know what I’m supposed to do in a case like this.

    Please help 😅

    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

The hreflang tag is managed by a translation plugin you are using, and Rank Math could not generate it on your site.

In this case that you are not using a translation plugin or not going to use one, then you may need to use a different plugin that specifically addresses this like Hreflang Manager.

    Hope that helps.
