WooCommerce Product variations not indexed – canonical tag

    Hello,

See attached image from Google Search Console. It looks like none of my product variations are being indexed because of an issue called “Alternate page with proper canonical tag.”

All of the URLs listed are variations. Can you help me understand what the issue is and if there’s anything I need to do, such as removing them from the sitemap? or configuring them so they are indexed.

    Thank you for your help!

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Those URLs are not included in your sitemap as those are the product attributes which show the same content. The canonical URL helps to exclude those pages with similar content to avoid duplicate content issues.

Please also note that the “Alternate page with proper canonical tag” is not an error. Google will simply exclude the duplicate version (product with attributes) and index the main version of the page/product.

In your GSC report, it means Google recognizes these canonicalized URLs correctly, and there is nothing you need to do on your part.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.
