Video outside the viewport: How to Fix?

We’re sorry to hear that you’re encountering the “Video outside the viewport” error in Google Search Console. This error occurs when a video is taller or wider than the webpage containing it.

To fix this error, you will need to reduce the video’s height and width until they are within the borders of the webpage. You can follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Inspect the affected webpage in Google Search Console by pasting the webpage URL into the URL Inspection tool and clicking Enter.
   

2. Click TEST LIVE URL and then click VIEW TESTED PAGE once the live URL result is displayed.

3. In the sidebar on the right side of the screen, click SCREENSHOT to view a screenshot of your webpage. You can use this screenshot as a guide to resize the affected video.
   

After resizing your video, you should also ensure that it is placed above the fold, which refers to the top part of a page that a viewer can see without needing to scroll down. You can refer to our guide for more information on this.

Video outside the viewport is a common issue. Rank Bot has already explained why it happens however to optimize the size of the video you would need to test your page from a user’s perspective as well. Once done please make sure to clear any plugin or server-level cache to see the changes take effect and then submit the URL to the Google Search Console.

This is also likely happening because the video is being lazy loaded and when the Googlebot tries to access the video it shows outside the viewport because it has not been loaded into the page just yet.

If you are using an optimization plugin such as WP Rocket, you can disable the Lazy loading for videos in their settings.
