I have followed the instruction in this documentation of RankMath and configured my site (https://bcwjourney.com) accordingly, but Google’s SERP is still showing the URL as my site name.

For easy reference, below is the the configuration right now:

    • WebSite structured data: "name":"Beyond Cards, We Journey","alternateName":"BCWJourney"
    • og:site_name: content="Beyond Cards, We Journey"
    • og:title: content="Beyond Cards, We Journey - Your Guide to Credit Card Rewards"
    • Title: Beyond Cards, We Journey - Your Guide to Credit Card Rewards

My understanding is the WebSite structured data and og:site_name are the two primary sources of info with which Google determined the site name.

Is there anything I am doing wrong? I am wondering if the comma in my desired site name might be causing issue, but I cannot find a definitive answer thus far.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this issue with your site name not being displayed in Google’s search results. Thank you for providing the details of your current configuration.

It looks like you’ve followed the correct steps to configure your site name using the WebSite structured data and the og:site_name. The comma in your desired site name should not be causing any issues, as it is a standard character and should not affect how Google interprets the site name.

Given the information you’ve provided, it seems that everything is set up correctly. However, sometimes it may take some time for Google to update its search results after making changes to your site name. I would recommend waiting for Google to recrawl your site and update the search results accordingly.

If the issue persists after some time, you may want to consider reaching out to Google directly through their Search Console for further assistance.

Thank you for your understanding, and I hope this helps resolve the issue. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to let us know.

    Best regards.

Is there any way to get in touch with Google’s support? I have submitted a question to their community forum but the responses haven’t been super helpful neither.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to this issue.

I understand that you are facing an issue where Google Search Results display your domain as the site name instead of the actual site name.

As you noted there are various sources that Google uses to define your site name on SERPs:

    1 . og:site_name
2 . Website structured data (Schema)
    3 . Content in title elements <title>
    4 . Heading elements (<h1></h1>)

Rank Math automatically incorporates the og:site_name meta tag and the Website Schema on your page.

This aids Google in understanding and displaying your desired site name.

To address this and encourage Google to display the sitename instead of domain in addition to the steps you have already taken please follow these steps:

1 . Double-check that your logo alt text and other significant areas on your site mention the sitename.

2 . Make sure internal links within your site use sitename rather than the domain.

3 . After making these adjustments, utilize the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to request indexing for your homepage.

4 . Ensure sitename is consistently represented across all online profiles, directories, and other platforms.

5 . If you’ve rebranded or changed the name in the past, verify there’s no legacy content, old sitemaps, or outdated pages sending conflicting signals to Google.

6 . Remember, you’ll need patience as Google re-crawls and re-indexes your site. It might take some time before these updates are reflected in the SERPs.

It’s important to note that while these steps can guide Google, the final site name displayed in SERPs is determined by Google’s algorithm, based on what it deems relevant and user-friendly.

You can further understand this by reviewing Google’s documentation on site-name: Google Site Names Documentation.

    We hope that helps.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the detailed reply, there are certainly a few things I can further to hopefully further increase Google’s confidence in my site name.

Do you mind elaborating what you mean by ‘Make sure internal links within your site use sitename rather than the domain.’?

    Hello,

When I mentioned “Make sure internal links within your site use sitename rather than the domain,” I’m referring to the anchor text used in the internal links on your website.

Internal links are links that point to another page on the same domain. The anchor text of these links plays a role in helping search engines understand the content and context of the linked page.

In the context of influencing how Google displays your site name in search results, it’s beneficial if the anchor text of your internal links includes your site name. For example, if your site name is “Beyond Cards, We Journey,” and you have internal links pointing to your homepage or other important pages, the anchor text of those links should ideally include your site name.

Here’s an example: Instead of: <a href="https://bcwjourney.com/">Visit our homepage</a> You can use: <a href="https://bcwjourney.com/">Visit Beyond Cards, We Journey</a>

This helps strengthen the association between your site name and the content of the linked pages. While it’s just one factor among many that search engines consider, it contributes to the overall signals that help Google understand the relevance and significance of your site name.

Remember to make these changes naturally, over-optimization, such as using the same exact anchor text everywhere, can be counterproductive.

We hope this clarifies the point.

    Thanks.
