Rank Math issue with ACF : ACF Link not saving rel=”nofollow” option

    Hello,

    I have a problem with 2 of my ACF custom fields (Link Fields), and I believe it’s linked to Rank Math SEO links settings issues.

    As the ticket titles says, the ACF Link is not saving rel=”nofollow” option, despite hitting save multiple times.

    No matter what I do, the “nofollow” attribute remains unchecked when I reload the post editing page in WordPress.

    I tried activating & deactivating the option “Nofollow External Links” in Rank Math General Settings>Links, but in both cases it doesn’t solve the issue.

    Website environment information :
    – WordPress PHP version 8.0
    – ACF Pro, latest version
    – No Link Manager plugin installed
    – No other SEO plugin installed
    – Rank Math version : free

    Which fixes would you recommend to fixes those issues ?

    PS : everytime I create a new post (ACF custom post type), my link field pointing to an internal URL always have the “nofollow” attribute checked, which I have to uncheck.
    Fortunately for this issue, the link attribute is correctly saved and I only need to do it once per post… but it’s still an issue.

    Rank Math does not have any option to set your internal links to nofollow.

    For troubleshooting, you may try deactivating Rank Math temporarily and check if the issue persists.

    Please note that all of the data you have already configured in Rank Math are saved in your database, so there shouldn’t be any data loss upon doing so.

    If the issue is fixed when Rank Math is deactivated, then we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

    Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

    Thanks for your answer.

    I’d like to clarify 2 things :

    1) the first ACF custom Link Field always points to an External site. BUT, the “nofollow” attribute remains unchecked when I hit publish and reload the page, no matter what I do.

    2) “Rank Math does not have any option to set your internal links to nofollow.” – Indeed, and that’s why I opened this ticket : when I create a New Post and hit “Publish”, the second ACF custom field ALWAYS have the “nofollow” attribute checked. But when I add an Internal Link, the box gets unchecked.
    So Rank Math works as intended for internal links.

    But a pattern I can observe is that the “nofollow” attribute never remains checked, whether it is an internal link (so, works as intended in that case) or an external link (which DOESN’T work as intended)

    In the hopes this new information will help you solve the issue.

    Hello,

    1. Please note that Rank Math will only add nofollow attribute in links found inside the post_content of a post or page so all links outside the content will not get that attribute automatically.

    2. We would like to check this on your website but it seems that you haven’t given any login information in the sensitive data. Can you please share your WP login so we can check further?

    I was able to replicate the issue on my end. The changes made to the link custom field’s attributes are not being saved. I have forwarded this to the devs and will inform you once a fix is available.
