Polylang canonical tag

    Rank Math free

    Hello,

We’re using RankMath and Polylang and we noticed that the canonical tag of all our homepages is set to the English homepage.

    Example: https://kriptomat.io/pl/

They have this by default: <link rel=”canonical” href=”https://kriptomat.io/”/>

The correct way would be to have canonical to itself, not the English homepage, right?

Can this be manually changed or are there any conflicts with Polylang?

    Thank you!

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

The self-referencing canonicals are needed for the posts and pages that do not have alternate versions. But if you check your page, you’ll see that your translation plugin automatically added alternate language version links for your translated page using link rel=”alternate” tags and href_lang tags.

In this case, you do not need to customize the canonicals. For more details on multilingual pages, you can check this Google guideline: https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2010/09/unifying-content-under-multilingual

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
