OG:image not showing up

    Hi there,

I’m having trouble showing an open graph image for my site.

My website uses a ‘Page’ as homepage for my site. This page has a featured image set, and it also has the rankmath facebook social pic and twitter social pic set.

The image set comes from url : https://powerquery.how/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/PowerQueryHow_Logo.png

And it’s a .png file of 11kb with dimensions 250 by 88 pixels

WHen I navigate to page source it does not show the og:graph tag.

I have tried installing the health check app and used the troubleshooting mode. Even when troubleshooting mode is turned on, the og:image does not show in the page view.

Can you help me fix this?

When using the post inspector at linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/post-inspector/inspect/https:%2F%2Fpowerquery.how%2F

    For the url: https://powerquery.how

They give the error: Add an og:image tag to the page to have control over the content’s image on LinkedIn.

    Please advise

    Regards,
    Rick de Groot

  • Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch and we are sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.

It does look like there is no og:image tag found on the webpage:

    Rank Math support

Please refer to this guide to address this issue: https://rankmath.com/kb/open-graph-image-not-displaying

However, it seems that you’re currently using the Rank Math PRO plugin, but the account you have used to open this ticket is the Rank Math free version.

Can you please search and forward a receipt from FastSpring.com so we can locate your account and verify it?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hi there,

The og:image functionality works great in Yoast SEO, I wonder why it doesn’t here.

The previous message I wrote, was after I tried all the steps in your guide at: https://rankmath.com/kb/open-graph-image-not-displaying/

    That means:
    1. I have set a default open graph image at :
WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Global > OpenGraph Thumbnail

    2. Since I have a page that functions as homepage I have set a featured image for that page. I also set a facebook and twitter image in the social section of rankmath for that page.

    3. I don’t have need for a facebook app id

    4. The URL is accessible as I wrote in previous post: https://powerquery.how/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/PowerQueryHow_Logo.png

    5. The page source does not contain the og:image

    6. I tried debugging with the health check app.

That’s why I reached out to see if you can help. Please if you know any, suggest any alternative solutions.

    Regards,
    Rick

    Hello,

The resolution of the featured image is very small 250×88 and that’s why our plugin is not using it as the og:image as Facebook will not consider it for link preview. Please use images with the resolution recommended for OpenGraph(1200×630) to fix the issue.

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.

Jaideep – thanks this is great. I changed it to:

    https://powerquery.how/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/PowerQueryHow_Logo.png

Increasing the dimensions worked a charm. There’s one pending issue that is related.

    I use the following site.icon.
    https://powerquery.how/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/PowerqueryHow-Icon.png

This shows up in google, however not so much at bing.com. The area where the icon should show is left missing.

Do you have any recommendations to get this issue resolved? I’m using an icon with dimensions 512 x 512 in png format.

    Regards,
    Rick

    Hello,

Rank Math’s unable to control the favicon (icon) that appears on your website on the Bing search engine. Usually, that’s built into the theme options.

In this case, you can follow the suggestions here to ensure that your logo appears on Bing:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/bing/forum/all/what-are-the-requirements-to-display-favicon-on/236d6598-41e2-483c-9950-aae8714d943c

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

Thank you Reinelle. I just read your link and at point 5 it says:

    5. The website must have a valid sitemap.xml file, and the sitemap should include the URL of the favicon file.

As far as I could see there is no url to the favicon file in the Sitemap.xml file. That’s something Rankmath creates right?

    Regards,
    Rick

    Hello,

Rank Math does not include that in the sitemap as it is generated virtually/dynamically, meaning they are not placed or created in your website files.

However, the favicon can take some time to update. You need to wait for Bing to crawl the website after you have made the changes to the favicon.

You can also use Bing Webmaster Tools to update its cache:
    https://www.bing.com/webmasters/help/content-removal-broken-links-or-outdated-cache-cb6c294d

Meanwhile, there’s a user who reported the same case recently where you can follow for updates:
    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-bing/the-site-s-favicon-is-not-displayed-in-bing-search-results/m-p/3880129

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.
