If I mark a page on my site noindex, I am not seeing a disallow directive in the robots.txt or will noindex only be removed from the site’s sitemap?

  • Hello,

Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

Our plugin will not add a directive in the robots.txt when you noindex a page as we only set it in the robots meta tag. This is the same as having disallow in the robots.txt.

Aside from setting the noindex in the meta tag, the page will be removed from the sitemap as well.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need my assistance with anything else.

By enabling noindex at the page level and not manually adding to the robots.txt, will the page eventually be deindexed or removed from the Google search results page. I am in the process of launching a new site and I noticed that some of the account pages are getting like the account password reset…etc. and I don’t need to have these pages in the index.

    Hello,

Yes, if you set noindex your pages, they will be automatically removed from SERPs. If those pages are currently appearing on SERPs, please allow Google some time to recrawl your website, and the pages will be automatically deindexed. You don’t need to add any disallow rules on your robots.txt file for that.

Here’s a guideline on how you can noindex any URL with Rank Math: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-noindex-urls/

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.
