No rel=canonical on certain URLs

    Hi guys,

Rankmath is great. The problem is, I don’t see a rel=canonical implemented for certain URLs with parameters (not controlled or generated by me).

Apparently, the old domain owner had thousands of pages indexed, and now when Google comes to index our website, there are certain pages that have no rel=canonical, even though they are the “homepage”.

As you can see, it’s all over the place. We do not control these URLs, didn’t generate them, etc. We have a few dozen pages at most. These URLs are in the thousands.

I left a few URLs with this issue in the sensitive data field.

Is there any way to get rid of them? Either have the ability to put a root domain rel=canonical or set up a robots noindex. Preferably both of these.

I don’t see a way to do it with Rankmath and I feel this should have a setting somewhere.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

I understand the concern you have regarding certain URLs causing indexing issues on your website. To address this problem, you can use the following methods:

    1. Rel=Canonical Tag: If you are dealing with duplicate content issues, you can add a canonical tag from these duplicate pages pointing to the original content that you want to index. This will help search engines understand which version of the content should be prioritized for indexing. You can find more information on how to add a canonical tag in our knowledge base article here.

    2. Noindex Meta Tag: If you want to prevent certain URLs from being indexed by search engines, you can add a noindex meta tag to those pages. This tag tells search engines not to consider those pages for indexing while keeping the content accessible to your audience. You can learn more about adding a noindex meta tag from our guide here.

By implementing these strategies, you can effectively manage the indexing of specific URLs that are causing issues on your website. If you have any further questions or need assistance with the implementation, feel free to ask or assign this ticket to a human agent for more personalized support.
