Issue with emojis in meta title

    Hi, I use RankMath with a few different sites, all on the same hosting package, and I’m noticing some strange behaviour when trying to add emojis to meta descriptions.

    On one of my sites I can add any emoji to the meta title, save the post, and the emoji remains on the saved post.

    On another of my sites when I add an emoji to the meta title and save the post, the meta title often – but not always – reverts to a version with no emoji.

    For example ☀️ saves fine on both websites. 📸 only saves on website 1, and never saves on website 2. I have lots more examples, but can’t work out why this difference exists.

    Are you able to help me troubleshoot this pls?

    It is likely that the two websites use different database character encoding. I can suggest that you login to your database using phpMyAdmin and compare the two versions.

    I don’t think it can be related to database character encoding as both sites have the same set up… and I can save and view all emojis in the page body, just not in the meta title or description. See page in sensitive data containing emojis.

    I have tested in a local installation and it is saving the emoji without any problem and even showing it on the meta description and meta title we can find in the source code.

    Could you try to grab the emojis you want to use from the Google SERPs as shown in this example https://i.mythemeshop.com/XdwBtd

    This is an ideal method to ensure that a supported emoji is entered in the post title.

    If, after trying that, your emojis keep disappearing, it could be (as my colleague suggested) that that database doesn’t support adding the emojis (which is weird since the other websites work but it is something we should think about).

    To check it, please talk to your web hosting provider. They might be able to fix this issue with your DB.
