Images alt text and tittle wrong in Google search

    When I search my site in Google and view the images of my site (using site:bestleukedingen.nl), I see that the images of my website show the wrong alt text and titles.

    It shows a title and text of a completely different page, blog or product. The image also doesn’t link to the picture or page, blog or product that it should link to. Instead the image in Google search links to a random page.

    For example, I have an image that belongs to my blog post about canvas paintings. In Google search, it shows a text about a product (tiles with own house number).

    How can I fix this issue so the picture will link to the right image, blog, product or page?

    All my images contain an alternative text, title and proper file name.

    Screenshot #1 is about the website search image tab in Google search. Here we see completely random and wrong titles appear underneath almost all the pictures. For example, the picture of the child with books in his hand and on top of his head. The title say “15x Kinderkamer poster…” (posters for childrens rooms), but this picture belongs to a post about best childrens books.

    When I look at the media library in WordPress, all of the pictures have the right name and alternative text.

    In screenshot #2 is when we search specificly for a keyword we want to rank for. We do find a picture from our website, but it is a random picture. The pink picture in the bottom with the Banksy painting is our picture, but from a totally different blog post. This picture had nothing to do with this keyword.

    Hope you can help us figure out what is going wrong.

    Hello,

    It is possible that Google has seen the image (the kid with books) from the page “15x Kinderkamer poster…” which I can confirm from here:

    In this case, you just need to make sure that you have added an alt or title attribute to your images that matches the search intent. We have a guide for that: https://rankmath.com/blog/image-seo/

    Please note that we have no way of controlling the images and the information shown in search results. The Google Search algorithms select the image’s information as it believes it would benefit the users. The image optimization in our plugin will just increase the odds for Google to pick up the alt/title from the image but it will still depend on Google.

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understand what you mean. All the images on our website have a relevant alt text and related title. I think the problem is more related to google picks up the “Related Post” section at the end of the page, where the feature image of replated post is used.

    Just one more question to consult in this regard.

    Is there a suggested method to discourage google to pick up these not relevant content on the blog post?

    What we tried now, is to use the html tag. We marked the container for the “Related post” as “aside”. Is that a good idea? Or is there another html tag or another approach you would suggest?

    Hello,

    If you are looking to keep Google from using portions of the content of your posts, you can utilize the `data-nosnippet tag: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/robots/robots_meta_tag#data-nosnippet-attr

    However, if that method is not proven effective in removing images with incorrect information on the SERP, then we suggest you focus on optimizing the image some more and making sure the images are listed on the sitemap.
