I'm having trouble implementing the breadcrumb code into my theme. - Support

I’m using Sydney free theme for my site. However, I’ve watched serval videos and read serval articles about how to add breadcrumbs to my site, but nothing I have done has worked. I tried copying the code and pasting it to my function php file, but I get an error. I’ve tried copying the short code and adding in my short code widget provided by elementor, but it does not work correctly. The breadcrumb short code doesn’t navigate my pages or sections on my landing page. Also I can’t edit the breadcrumb appearance within elementor.

We are able to add the breadcrumbs before the content and this is how it looks like:

Please see screenshot #1 in the sensitive data section.

I tried moving it to a much better position by adding the code to the functions.php but I can’t save the file at the moment. Please see screenshot #2.

If you are not in favor of the current position of the breadcrumbs. Let us know here and share your website FTP login so we can adjust it for you further.

So I was able to see the screen shots. However, I’m confused a little about what was done and how it would help me out. For instance, where the breadcrumb is located at is fine but how would I access it when the page it was place on, is a page I’m not using? Also how would it continue to work if the code is unable to be saved to my php file?

Hello,

At first, I tried adding the breadcrumbs code to your theme’s functions.php so I can control the location of the breadcrumbs but it doesn’t let me save it (screenshot #2) so I went ahead and save it to your theme’s single.php instead, that is why it is working on posts but not on page yet.

Now, I have added the code to your theme’s page.php so you should see it on regular pages:

If you are heavily depending on the Elementor template, you can use the integrated breadcrumbs for Elementor which is available in our PRO subscription: https://rankmath.com/kb/breadcrumbs/#elementor

If that is not an option for you, you can always use the shortcode that is also provided.

If I upgrade to the pro version will the breadcrumb plug in work properly using elementor, even though Sydney theme doesn’t have support for rank math? I’ve already been considering upgrading to the rank math plugin for other reasons besides this breadcrumb issue. However, I just would like to understand this breadcrumb issue before I upgrade to the pro version.

Hello,

If you’re using Elementor to create the pages, yes, you can add the Rank Math Elementor Breadcrumb widget and it will work just fine. It’s a widget and it will work just like any other widget Elementor provides.

As explained by my colleague above, you can also use shortcode method to display the breadcrumb.
