    Hello,

For additional troubleshooting, please check if there’s some security rule inside your .htaccess file which may prevent saving the settings.

You can also use the default .htaccess file from here: https://wordpress.org/support/article/htaccess/

Please do take a complete backup of your website before modifying your .htaccess as it is a sensitive file.

If the issue persists, you may also check if your website has the ModSec (ModSecurity) feature enabled on your server as it can block some bots from accessing your site.

Let us know how this goes.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your response.

I have looked in the .htaccess file and I don’t think there is a security rule inside it, but I’m new to using scripting languages so it could be there is a line in it.

Is there a specific line that could cause the problem that I can search for in the file?

I have looked at the link you suggested and the basic WordPress part is the same.

I also looked for the ModSec and my host has it turned on by default, but I added some code lines they suggested for turning off.

I tried to connect to Google again and it still didn’t work.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

We’ve checked your .htaccess, and there are lines inserted by iThemes that could cause the connection issue on your site.

If you’re using Firefox or Safari browser, please try using Google Chrome (Incognito mode) or another Chromium-based browser upon reconnecting to save those settings.

We have seen this in the past when people were using Safari on macOS or the Firefox browser, so if you are using any of these combinations, the data might not get saved.

If the issue still persists, then you may try replacing your current .htaccess with the default one and connect again.

Let us know how this goes.

    Hi,

Thank you for looking at my website!

I always use Google Chrome and I get the error. I have just tried connecting in incognito mode and I still get the error.

I have a few questions about changing my.htaccess with the default one.

    * Do I need to enter my current .htaccess and just delete all the lines and copy and paste the default one in?

    * If so, which parts? Just the lines under “Basic WP” or do I need to add more? I don’t have a Multisite.

    * If I delete all the lines, will plugins like iThemes and Litespeed automatically add the needed lines for the plugins to work back and if so, won’t I get the same problem again when trying to connect to Google?

Sorry for asking a lot of questions, I just want my website to work. I have used Rank Math for a few years now and I have never had problems with connecting to Google and now it just doesn’t work for some reason and I don’t know why.

    Hello,

We suggest creating a copy of your .htaccess to serve as the backup in case anything goes wrong. You can do that in your website’s FTP or File Manager. Once done, you can proceed with modifying your .htaccess file.

You proceed with removing all previous content of your .htaccess and replacing it with the default configuration.

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi,

I removed all the previous content in my .htaccess file and replaced it with the default one. I tried to connect to Google and it worked! If I look at my dashboard all the analytics are at 0, does it need time to load everything correctly or could something else be not working?

Also I removed quite some lines of code from plugins I’m using on my website. Do I need to do something or will the plugins automatically add the lines back for the plugins to work correctly?

    Regards,
    Mike

    Hello,

Now that you have connected your account successfully, you can revert back to your original .htaccess so that your other plugins work seamlessly.

Regarding the data from Google – if you do have data in your Google Analytics and Search Console but they are not showing on Rank Math > Analytics, then you can try re-fetching the data. Follow this guide, steps 1-3.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation

    Hi,

I tried what you suggested for getting the data from Google. I looked at my analytics account and it shows data. Do you have any other suggestions why it is not working?

    Hi,

I looked at my dashboard and there are some analytics now. Do you still need to take a look at my website, or should it all be working now?

    Regards,
    Mike

    Hello,

Since your Analytics data has started showing that means your Google account is connected with the Rank Math account. Please note that in the free version of the plugin, Rank Math automatically fetches the data in every 7 days.

If you see any mismatch between the data on your Google Search Console and Rank Math, you can follow the steps below to delete old analytics data and start a fresh import:

    1. At first please head over to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Status & Tools > Database Tools and click the Rebuild Index button.

    2. After that, Head over to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > Analytics tab, click the Delete Data button, and then click the Update Data Manually

It will start the new data fetch from Google. You can reload the page to see the notice related to the import process.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
