How to include only a particular list of authors in the sitemap

I need help with website’s sitemap. I only want certain authors, specifically those with admin roles in the backend, to be included. Can you help me find a solution?

If I turn on indexing for authors using the Author Robots Meta feature (shown here: https://bsf.d.pr/i/RVMELN), it will start indexing all the archives for authors/users.

While there’s an option to exclude IDs from the sitemap, it’s not practical for us because there are too many non-author IDs to add.

Is there a way we can include just a few (4-5) author archive pages in the sitemap?

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out with your query about including only specific authors in the sitemap. To include only certain authors, particularly those with admin roles, in the sitemap, you can follow these steps:

    1. Exclude User Roles:

      • Navigate to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings.
      • Scroll down to the Exclude User Roles section.
      • Select the user roles you want to exclude from the sitemap, such as non-admin roles.
      • Click on Save Changes to apply the settings.
    2. Exclude Specific Users:

      • If excluding user roles is not practical due to the number of non-author IDs, you can exclude specific users by their IDs.
      • Go to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings.
      • Scroll down to the Exclude Users section.
      • Enter the user IDs of the authors you want to exclude from the sitemap, separated by commas.
      • Click on Save Changes to save your preferences.

By following these steps, you can include only a few (4-5) author archive pages in the sitemap while excluding others based on their user roles or specific user IDs.

If you need further assistance or have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and bringing your concern to our attention.

In this case, you’ll have to set the authors to Noindex that you don’t want to include in your sitemap. You can do that from Rank Math SEO meta box: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-noindex-urls/#classic-editor

Please note that even if you remove any author from your sitemap, Google can still find that and index on SERPs. So, you’ll have to set the authors to Noindex so that Google doesn’t index those URLs.

Also, if you set any URLs to Noindex, Rank Math automatically removes them from your sitemap.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.

Manually inserting no-index tags for each individual author is impractical due to the large number of authors/users we manage and it will index new authors/users automatically.

Is it possible to selectively add the four authors we intend to include in the sitemap through a function.php script instead of manual intervention?

    Hello,

There is no other option to exclude all the authors from the sitemap except for a few that you want to keep. Since you only want to create the author sitemap for 4-5 authors, you can disable the default author sitemap of our plugin and use the following guide to create a custom author sitemap with the URLs you want to include: https://rankmath.com/kb/custom-sitemaps/

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
