How to handle focus keyword variations (e.g. singular/plurar)

    Hi,

How do we handle different “variations” of the focus keyword, e.g. singular/plural in Rankmath?

Example: Our page http://www.etron.de/kassensysteme/ has the focus keyword “kassensysteme”. However, the keyword has variations, e.g. singular “kassensystem” and “kassensystemen”. Rankmath does not seem to recognize those variations of the keyword and does not consider them when calculating the number of appearances on the page.

How can I tell rankmath, that “kassensystem” and “kassensystemen” is a variation of my keyword?

    Best regards,

    Jörg

  • Hello,

Thank you for your query. We will be super-happy to help you with your concern.

Google sees no difference between the plural and singular search for your related keywords.

Whichever term you see more fit for your content, you should use and if Rank Math is giving you the wrong score due to it, feel free to add both as focus keywords.

We hope that helps and we are here should you have any follow-up questions.

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanx for your response! I found out, that I have to provide the singular nominative singular case of the keyword and Rankmath seems to consider all other forms (plural, grammatical cases). However, Rankmath, seems to miss out a few occurrences. On the page I use for testing I count 10 occurrences, while Rankmath reports 6 (not considering header and footer).

Further Rankmath complains “You are not using rich media like images or videos.”, while the page contains plenty of images and even one video.

What can be the problem here?

See for yourself using info in sensitive data section.

    Best regards,

    Jörg

Update: I found out, that the problem with the image/video is due to the PlugIn “WP Rocket” we are using on our site. When disabling “WP Rocket” images/videos are correctly recognized. However, the focus keyword count does not change.

    Hello,

Our plugin analyzes the content that is added inside the post editor (the_content section of the page). It shows the number of links in the actual page content and excludes the footer, sidebar, and any other widgets.

In this case, you can safely ignore the SEO score as it is only for your reference and doesn’t affect the actual performance of the posts in the SERPs. Please note that these tests are only there for your reference to help you in optimizing your pages/post content. If you feel any of them doesn’t apply to your page, please feel free to ignore them.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi Reinelle,

    Thanx for your response!

For sure, I can ignore it, but if they are not somewhat reliable they are of no big help. Reliable SEO scores/hints are the reason we evaluate Rankmath to switch from Yoast. Remark: Rankmath performs better than Yoast, but still not reliable enough.

So it would be interesting to find out, why in this particular example the keyword count reported is lower than the real keyword count (in the Content section).

Further, is there any recommendation on how to deal with optimization PlugIns like WP Rocket. Should we disable those, while working with Rankmath (SEO optimization) or are there any other workflows/best practices?

    Thanx!

    Best regards,

    Jörg

    Hello,

    1. Our plugin looks for the exact match of the keyword in the content and ignores its variations. We are working on improving the content analysis of our plugin to detect the variations of the focus keyword.

    2. For the images and videos in the content, can you please confirm if you are using a page builder?

    3. You can keep the optimization plugins active. They shouldn’t cause any issues with the features of our plugin. You just need to make sure that you have excluded the sitemaps of our plugin from the caching of the optimization plugins. You can follow this guide to do that: https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

    Looking forward to helping you.
