Hello,
I apologize for the issue you’re facing with the incorrect page in your sitemap. I can help you fix this.
To change the sitemap URL in Rank Math, you need to follow these steps:
- Go to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Rank Math SEO.
- Click on General Settings.
- In the General tab, scroll down to the Sitemap Settings section.
- Look for the Sitemap URLs option and click on it to expand the settings.
- In the Custom Sitemap URLs field, you can add or edit the URLs that should be included in your sitemap.
- Remove the incorrect page URL (
https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-change-canonical-url/) from the list and add the correct page URL (
https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-change-canonical-url/).
- Click on the Save Changes button to save your settings.
Once you’ve made these changes, Rank Math will update your sitemap with the corrected URLs. It may take some time for search engines to crawl and index the updated sitemap.

Sorry, but I can’t seem to find the sitemap options under the general settings to change the URL.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.
Please note that the sitemap will not remove redirected URLs that are still available in the WordPress backend.
You can either completely delete the page, which would remove it from the sitemap, or set it to noindex and redirect it.
Once done, please follow the steps to flush the sitemap cache:
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp
2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/
Hope that helps.
Thank you.
Hey thank you for the reply. I have completed step one but when I try to edit the htaccess I’m getting this on my screen; .htaccess file not found.
Can you please tell me why this is? If I don’t do the second step with the sitemap automatically update over time? Thanks!
Hello,
You are getting this error because you do not have any .htaccess
file, you can read this guide for instructions on how to create one.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation
