Google Sees Page as an Event Instead of Article

I have a page titled “Upcoming Classes” which uses The Event Calendar to list out classes that students can register for. In Rank Math Schema I have this set as an “Article” with an article type of “Article”.

However, when I look at Google Search Console or Google’s Rich Results Test it thinks the page is an event and shows one critical issue (Missing filed “location”) and 3 non-critical issues (“Missing field “organizer”, Missing field “image”, Missing field “offers”).

How do I let Google know they are looking at a page, not individual events?

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out with your concern about Google seeing your page as an event instead of an article. To address this issue, you can follow these steps to ensure Google recognizes your page correctly:

    1. Check Schema Markup Type: Verify that the Schema Markup type set for your page is indeed “Article” and not “Event.” You can do this by navigating to the Rank Math settings for the specific page.

    2. Update Schema Markup: If the Schema Markup type is set as “Event,” you should update it to “Article.” Make sure to select the appropriate Article type that best describes your content.

    3. Verify Structured Data: After updating the Schema Markup type, ensure that the structured data on your page reflects the changes made. You can use tools like Google’s Rich Results Test to validate the structured data.

    4. Address Missing Fields: Address the critical and non-critical issues reported by Google, such as the missing fields like “location,” “organizer,” “image,” and “offers.” These fields are essential for providing comprehensive information to Google.

    5. Resubmit to Google: Once you have made the necessary updates to your Schema Markup and addressed the missing fields, you can request Google to re-crawl and re-index your page. This will help Google recognize the changes you have implemented.

If after following these steps, Google still identifies your page as an event, you may need to review the Schema Markup settings further or seek assistance from a developer to ensure the correct Schema type is applied.

If you encounter any difficulties or need further assistance, feel free to provide additional details or screenshots, and we’ll be happy to assist you further.

    Kind regards.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.

The Event Manager plugin could be adding the Event Schema to the page. Please check the plugin settings and disable the Schema to fix the issue. You can also share the URL of the affected page so we can check and confirm.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Thank you. The affected page is https://www.sq1med.com/upcoming-classes/.

    Hello,

We checked your page and we can confirm the schema is getting added by your Event Manager plugin, not by Rank Math:

All the Schema from our plugin goes inside a script tag with the class rank-math-schema.

In order to resolve this issue, you can disable the Schema option from this plugin or get in touch this plugin support and inform them about this issue.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
