Google Search Console shows 150.000 not indexed pages

    Hi everyone,

I have a question about non-indexed pages in an online shop.

In the Google Search Console, I see 150,000 pages as not indexed.
Indexed are 3529 which seems OK compared to the amount of products and pages we have

This is broken down as follows:
    Excluded by “noindex” tag
    Not found (404)
    Page with redirect
    Crawled – currently not indexed

When I look at the pages, they are all filter results.
    Example: page/2/?product_count=48&filtering=1&product_order=desc&product_orderby=popularity&filter_product_brand=

So far, so good. These results should not be indexed either.

Is it generally okay to have so many non-indexed pages in the Search Console?
Should these pages be set to No Follow, and if so, can I do this with Rank Math?

I can’t find any settings for this.
I am currently using the free version of Rank Math

Thanks for your support in Advance
    All the best Thomas

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out with your concern about the non-indexed pages in Google Search Console for your online shop. It’s normal to have pages that are not indexed, especially if they are filter results like the ones you mentioned.

The pages you described, such as filter results like “page/2/?product_count=48&filtering=1&product_order=desc&product_orderby=popularity&filter_product_brand=” should indeed not be indexed, and it’s good that they are excluded from indexing.

Regarding setting these pages to No Follow, it’s essential to understand that the “No Follow” attribute is different from “No Index.” The “No Follow” attribute is used for links, while “No Index” is used to prevent a page from being indexed by search engines.

In your case, since these filter result pages should not be indexed, it’s appropriate that they are set as “No Index.” Unfortunately, the free version of Rank Math does not have the option to set individual pages to “No Index.”

To address this issue, you can consider the following options:

    1. No Index Meta Tag: You can manually add a “No Index” meta tag to these pages. Here is a guide on how to add a No Index meta tag from Rank Math.

    2. Canonical Tag: If these filter result pages are duplicates of other pages, you can use a canonical tag to point to the original content. Here is a guide on how to add a canonical tag from Rank Math.

    Best regards.
