  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you are facing with the RankMath Canonical option not working correctly. To address the “Alternate page with proper canonical tag” status message in Google Search Console for the URLs you provided, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify Duplicate Pages:

      • Navigate to the Pages section of Google Search Console.
      • Click on the Not indexed tab.
      • Look for the “Alternate page with proper canonical tag” status.
    2. Check Canonical URLs:

      • Verify if the affected pages include the correct canonical URL.
      • If not, you can change them using Rank Math by updating the Canonical URL in the Rank Math meta box.
    3. Update Canonical URL:

      • In the Rank Math meta box, go to the Advanced tab.
      • Change the Canonical URL field to point to the main source of your content.
      • Update the page after making changes or click Publish for new pages.

If you have a large number of URLs affected, you may need to go through them one by one to ensure the correct canonical URLs are set. If you need further assistance or have any questions, feel free to reach out to our support team.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention. We’re here to help you resolve this issue.

    Hello,

Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

The pages you shared have canonical pointing to their actual URL without the query parameter or filter like the attribute_color attribute. This is correct as you don’t want to cause duplicate content on Google but Google is somehow crawling these attribute URLs which is something Google should avoid.

To fix this, we just need to instruct Google not to crawl these attribute URLs by modifying your Robots.txt. Here is the robots.txt rule you have to add to your

    User-Agent: *
    Disallow: *?attribute_size=*
    Disallow: *?attribute_color=*
    Disallow: *?attribute_flavor=*
    Disallow: *?attribute_storage-options=*
    Disallow: *?add-to-cart=*

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
