Google displaying the same meta description for many page results

    Hi,

Despite the use of individual page descriptions Google seems to show the footer for many search results. Please see here: https://imgur.com/a/tRo7mEi

In RankMath set up the ‘Single Page Description’ is set up as %exceprt%: https://imgur.com/a/Ao4aMhv

Is that correct? Or should it be something else to make Google use the correct page description

    Thanks
    Mike

  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing with Google displaying the same meta description for many search results. Thank you for providing the screenshots and the details of your Rank Math setup.

Based on the information you’ve provided, it seems that you have set the ‘Single Page Description’ in Rank Math to %excerpt%. This is a valid setting, and it should work correctly to provide individual page descriptions to Google.

However, there are a few other factors that could be causing Google to display the same meta description for multiple pages. These include the relevance and quality of the meta description, as well as whether the page has been indexed by Google.

To ensure that Google uses the correct page description, I recommend checking whether the latest version of your page has been indexed by Google. You can do this by checking the Google cache date for your page. Here’s how you can do that:

    1. Go to Google and search for your page.
    2. Click on the small, downwards-pointing arrow next to the domain in the search results.
    3. Click on Cached to view the details, including the date when Google last cached your page.

If the cache date is from before adding the new meta description, you may need to wait for Google to re-crawl and re-index the page with your updated meta title and description.

Additionally, it’s important to ensure that your meta descriptions are relevant, useful, and of high quality. If they are just a collection of keywords or if they are not matching what users are searching for, Google may choose not to use them.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions or need assistance with anything else, please feel free to ask.

    Hello,

We have checked the meta description of your homepage, and it is already appearing fine in the page’s source code.

To ensure that the meta title and description you have set are already applied, you can verify that using these tools:

Please note that Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and shows something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better. In this case, the best you can do is optimize your meta title and description to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.
