Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag

    Dear Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I have recently noticed that there are 210 pages in my Google Search Console marked as “Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag.”

I understand that these pages are mainly tag pages, as I have intentionally added the “noindex” tag from the backend to prevent them from being indexed. However, I am puzzled as to why these pages are still visible in my Google Search Console.

My objective is to remove all of these tag pages entirely and clear them from my Google Search Console. Could you kindly provide guidance on how I can accomplish this?

For your reference, I have attached a screenshot in the “Sensitive data” section, which shows the specific pages marked as “Excluded by ‘noindex’ tag.”

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for the issue you are facing.

Assuming you have selected No Index under “Tag Archives Robots Meta” in Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Tags, you can disallow Google from crawling these types of pages via robots.txt.

Please add this robots.txt directive to your website:

    Disallow: */tag/*

    Here’s how you edit your robots.txt: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-edit-robots-txt-with-rank-math/

Hope that helps. Let us if you need anything else.

    Thank you.

    Hi Jitendra,

    Thanks for your reply.

I’ll add Disallow: */tag/* in my robots.txt file.

How can I remove previously tag pages entirely and clear them from my Google Search Console. Could you kindly provide guidance on how I can accomplish this?

Should I add them to removal?

    Hello,

It seems the /tag/ directive is not yet added to your robots.txt file, can you please verify from your end? Adding that rule should help you block the search engines from crawling your tag pages.

As for removing the tag pages from your Google Search Console report, you would need to wait for Google for the next crawling and since these pages are already set to noindex, Google should remove these pages from the report.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need my assistance with anything else.

    Thank you.

PS: The removal tool is something you only need to use if you wish remove a page from indexing (SERP)
