Previously we had redirections for certain pages (301 redirections), these were not needed anymore and were thus set to inactive/disabled. After trying to access the original url it would still redirect to the previously set redirection.
We have also tried deleting the redirection to no avail.
And setting it to redirect from the redirection to the old url obviously causes an infinite loop.

Hello,
I’m sorry to hear about the issue you are facing with deleted redirections still redirecting on your website.
To address this problem, you can follow these steps:
-
Check .htaccess File:
- Navigate to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Edit .htaccess as shown in the screenshot below:
- Look for any additional redirection rules in the .htaccess file and delete them if found.
- Click on the Save Changes button to ensure the changes are applied.
- Navigate to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Edit .htaccess as shown in the screenshot below:
-
Perform a Theme or Plugin Conflict Check:
- Sometimes conflicts between plugins or themes can cause unwanted redirects. You can perform a quick conflict check by following the steps outlined in this guide.
- Disable Rank Math temporarily and check if the issue persists. If not, try disabling other plugins one by one to identify the conflicting plugin.
If the issue persists after following these steps, please feel free to reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.
Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention.

I found out that deleting/disabling redirects in rank math, does NOT delete/disable them in the wordpress redirects.
Hello,
Thank you for your patience.
Rank Math redirects should not be added to any WordPress redirects and they should be disabled once you have deactivated or deleted them. We recommend clearing your website and browser’s cache if they are still operational upon doing so.
However, in Rank Math PRO, we offer a feature to automatically sync your redirections to the .htaccess file for even faster redirects by clicking Sync to .htaccess
If you’re not using Rank Math PRO, then you may check your .htaccess as redirects are added in that file:
https://rankmath.com/kb/unwanted-urls-redirecting/#htaccess-or-nginxLet us know how this goes.
Good to know that this is a possibility, if I synced the redirections and then removed the synced redirections in the .htaccess for example, would they also be deleted in the Rank Math plugin?
And from what you’re saying I understand that by default; redirections made in rank math aren’t supposed to appear in wordpress dashboard > tools > redirections? Weird because this is exactly what happens when we create one in rank math redirections.
Hello,
Rank Math only makes a copy of the redirection on your
.htaccess
file. So, even if you delete the redirection from the.htaccess
file, it will appear in Rank Math > Redirections. However, this feature is only available in the PRO version of the plugin. If you set any redirection on Rank Math, it will always show on WP Dashboard > Rank Math > Redirections.
For further troubleshooting on this issue, you can share the affected URL with us.
Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
But the problem is that the redirections created in WP dashboard > Rank Math > Redirections, are also created in WP dashboard > tools > redirections.
When deleting them in Rank Math Redirections, they are NOT deleted in the tools redirections, thus the redirection stays active and makes it necessary to do double work (removing from both rank math AND tools).
Is there no solution for this?
Hello,
Thank you for your patience.
The redirection you’re referring to is not added in WordPress by default.
That feature could be added by one of your plugins or active theme.
To determine that, you can follow this troubleshooting guide:

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.
Let us know how this goes.
It was indeed a plugin conflict, apparently we had the Redirections plugin which would copy the redirections made in Rank Math, but not delete them when deleted on Rank Math.
Thank you for your help & time.
