Please make sure that your Divi theme and Rank Math are in their latest versions. Since you mentioned that your website is very old, I would suggest taking a full backup first before updating any plugins and themes.
Also, please head over to your WP Dashboard > Rank Math > Status & Tools > System Status and click the “Copy System Info to Clipboard” button, and paste it here so we can further analyze the issue.

Thanks for your reply. There was a small incremental update pending for Divi, which has now been applied. If ALL plugins but Rank Math are disabled and I edit a page using the page builder, I’m now getting ‘Save Failed’ error on the page builder.
I will reach out to the hosting company to address one of the suggestions in the error message before trying it again:
Contacting your host and asking them to increase the following PHP variables may help: memory_limit, max_execution_time, upload_max_filesize, post_max_size, max_input_time, max_input_vars. In addition, auditing your firewall error log (such as ModSecurity) may reveal false positives that are preventing saves from completing.
UPDATE from the hosting company:
I was able to replicate the issue, but it appears cause of it is ‘Rank Math SEO” plugin. After I disabled plugin I was able to save page without any errors.
Adjusting those recommended settings in the error message had no effect, so I recommend you get in touch with the developers of that plugin for advise on what could be causing it or if there are any special requirements for that plugin to work.

In this case, please check if you have any firewall that may prevent Rank Math from saving a page.
If you are using a Firewall, please whitelist this route:
/wp-json/rankmath/v1/updateMeta

The server firewall (Web Application Firewall) was one of the things we had checked earlier when troubleshooting the issue as this could have been a common cause but no hits were found.

PS the website details I just shared with you are for a staging site with regular backups. Please troubleshoot as you see fit. This will have no effect at all on my live business site. To reproduce the issue try to make an edit to the page “Website Design Company v2” (for testing purposes) using the Divi ‘Visual Builder’ and then save. Thank you.

After some debugging, we found that the issue is indeed with the child theme you are using on your website.
We switched to the default Divi theme and we were able to save the pages without any issues, so this would indicate that some of the functions you have on the child theme are likely causing this conflict.
You can disable each of the functions one by one and test saving the page to verify which one is causing this issue on the website.
