This is possible that Messenger already indexed the old category URL format (like how Google indexing works) so it shows the correct information there.
After enabling back the “Strip Category Base” option on our plugin, please make sure to head over to your WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks and update the settings without changing anything.

In this case, you can try a different plugin to strip the category base like Permalink Manager and check again the URL in Messenger.
This will help to rule out if the issue is with Messenger’s cache or with our option to strip the category base.

I deselected the image > saved the page > Reassigned the image and saved it once more.
Can you please check on your end as well and see if the Image works as intended?
