I must be missing a link, but I changed from Yoast and now, despite my specifying a meta snippet, Google is choosing words at random and changing them at random.

  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing with your meta snippets after switching from Yoast to Rank Math. When Google displays different meta titles or descriptions than what you’ve specified, it can be due to various reasons.

One common reason is that Google might find other content on the page more relevant to the user’s search query and choose to display that instead of the provided meta information. This behavior is beyond our control as search engines autonomously decide what to display based on their algorithms.

To address this issue, you can ensure that your meta descriptions are relevant, unique, and of high quality. Also, make sure that each page has a distinct meta description to avoid duplication.

If you’ve already checked these aspects and the issue persists, it might be due to Google’s preference for certain content on your page. Unfortunately, in such cases, there is little we can do to force Google to use the specified meta information.

If you need further assistance or have any other questions, please feel free to reply here. We’re here to help you.

Thank you for reaching out with your concern.

This was never a problem with Yoast, so I don’t think it’s something I’m doing. All snippets are different, relevant, and follow guidelines.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Can you please share some examples of the pages where this issue seems to occur?

Please note that it is common for Google to do this nowadays. Even when everything is fine, Google may choose to display a different meta title for your search query result. Google may sometimes ignore the custom metadata you have set and instead display something else that better matches the search intent.

Since the pages are already indexed, it is up to Google to show your content for the desired search keyword. Google sometimes tries to adjust the title according to the search intent.

I’m not home now but will send screenshots later

Here are three screenshots, one showing how the meta snippet is written and one showing what appears on a Google search using the keyword. The third shows that when I click on the schema icon in the RankMath section of my post, I’m not given the options that the first article you linked to shows, so I can’t make sure that the name and description are included. Is that information somewhere else?

CORRECTION: I’m not able to include screenshots; images require a URL, and they are on my computer. Please tell me how I can send them to you.

    Thanks,
    Betsey
