    Hi there,

As a website owner, I have encountered an error in the Google Search Console related to the “Alternate page with the proper canonical tag” issue. Upon investigation, I have identified 98 URLs that are affected by this error, including the following example: https://mustafaguides.com/seat-covers/best-car-seat-covers/amp/.

I understand that this is an AMP version URL, however, it is listed as an “Alternate page with the proper canonical tag,” whereas the non-AMP version URL is https://mustafaguides.com/seat-covers/best-car-seat-covers/. Despite my attempts to resolve this issue, I have not been successful.

I am seeking your expert opinion and advice on how to resolve this error. Additionally, I am concerned about the impact that this error may have on my website’s ranking, as it is relatively new and still striving for better visibility. If this error is having a negative effect on my website’s ranking, please provide me with guidance on how to rectify the issue.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter and moving forward accordingly. Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Best regards,
    Mumtaz Ali

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math for help with the “Alternate page with the proper canonical tag” issue on your website.

You can safely ignore the alternate with proper canonical message for AMP pages. Canonical tags are added to duplicate pages to tell search engines when they are crawling an alternative version of another page. In this case the AMP version is the alternative version of the non-AMP version.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.

Do you mean, the AMP version isn’t affecting any website’s ranking when URLs are in “alternate page with proper canonical error” in Search Console?

    Hello,

Yes, this shouldn’t affect your website ranking. This error or message only shows that Google has identified 2 versions of the page which are the amp version and the non-amp version and Google chooses to select the canonical URL you have assigned for it.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need my assistance with anything else.
