Adding hidden meta keywords

    Hi,

I’m trying to optimize my website and have RankMath installed on my site. I have all the basic stuff, but recently saw on a competitor site that they have extra hidden keywords in a meta description or page description that don’t show up in the snippet that the public sees.

I’d like the regular meta description to be viewable, but also have keywords like “insurance agent oregon” or “health insurance agent oregon” somewhere on the page also, but not necessarily in the snippet.

Is there a way to add hidden keywords that will improve search results?

    Thank you, Cindy

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

Hiding keywords is considered a bad practice for SEO, keyword hiding involves manipulating the code or content of a web page to make certain keywords invisible to the user while still visible to search engine crawlers.

Search engines consider keyword hiding as a form of spamming and will penalize websites that use such techniques.

I recommend that instead of hiding keywords, focus on creating high-quality content that naturally includes relevant keywords and phrases. This approach will not only improve your website’s search engine visibility but also provide a better user experience for your visitors.

Here is Google’s official position on hidden text:

    Hope that helps.

Ok that’s fine. I’m not trying to be sneaky. How do you suggest I insert local words like insurance agent Portland, insurance agent California, insurance agent Seattle, etc. what is best practice for specific geographic areas? A page for each area? Thanks

    Hello,

Thank you for providing additional information.

To answer your question, the best way is to do Local pages separately. Make the “service” page and people often use terms like “we provide solutions to these locations” as well and they list down the locations. Each location will be linked to the specific page where you only talk about that location and services you provide there. So, “insurance agent Portland” will be a new page with the slug “insurance-agent-portland” and so on.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you
