Two Domains in One GSC Property

    Dear Rank Math Support Team,

I recently decided to add your plugin to WordPress. I linked GSC to Rankmath. Now rank math created a new property und my domain instead of using the property, which already has historical data.

Here is a screencap of what I mean.

How can I “force” RankMath to use my historical and already existing property, instead of creating a new one?

    Thank you!

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the issue with Rank Math creating a new property in Google Search Console instead of using your existing one.

To resolve this, you can manually select your existing property within Rank Math. Here’s how you can do it:

    1. Go to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Analytics.
    2. Under the Search Console section, you should see a drop-down list with properties created by Rank Math.
    3. Look for your existing property in the drop-down list and select it instead of the newly created one.
    4. After selecting your desired property, remember to click on the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page to apply the changes.

If you encounter any difficulties or need further assistance, please feel free to reply to this ticket, and our support team will be glad to help you.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    Best regards.

    Dear Rank Bot,

    this doesn’t solve my problem.

The drop down menu contains three versions of my domain under Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Analytics.

    1) sc-domain:(my-domain.com)
    2) sc-domain:(my-domain.com) (which is an duplicate from 1) or vice versa)
    3) https://my-domain.com – This is the domain which constantly gets auto-generated by rankmath and added to Google Search Console automatically, whereas 1) / 2) is the domain which is historically used.

How can I “force” Rankmath to use the historically Search Console property, instead of generating a new one?

Is there an option to reset RankMath and connect and link to Google Search Console using the historical Search Console domain (1) or 2) listed above?

    Thank you!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for the trouble this issue must have caused you.

From the description and screenshot you shared, the first two properties are domain properties. While using Rank Math the correct way to connect your Google Search Console account with Rank Math is via a URL prefix rather than a domain property (sc-domain:yourdomain.com). We do not support domain property.

The URL-prefix property also helps keep your sitemap in sync with Google Search Console as we submit it automatically for you. In addition, the domain property won’t work correctly on some sections of the Analytics module such as the IndexStatus.

So please make sure to create and choose the URL property instead when you reconnect your Google service in Rank Math again.

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to assisting you further.

    Hello,

You really do not have to remove the domain property as having both properties in your Google Search Console should not cause any issues.

If however, having both will cause you confusion you can simply remove the domain and focus on the URL-Prefix property.

    We hope this helps.

    Thanks.
