I need help edit htaccess. I have tried to use the bot but I don't understand - Support

Due to an error on my SEO analysis, The www and non-www versions of your URL are not redirected to the same site. I am trying to fix it but can’t. I asked Host Gator to correct but I am still getting the error. The bot tells me to go into edit it but the file is not writeable. Then it tells me to add a filter. I can’t do that. Can you assist.
