Dear RankMath. I can’t seem to correct the error display on Google SERP whereby my meta title as entered in the description field only shows the first letter on Google? In my RankMath description I have “Hamilton Gallery is an Online Art Gallery for South African Artists, Contemporary Fine Art, Photography, Sculptures and Online Paintings for Sale.” and on the Google SERP it only displays Hamilton…? Why is this and how do I correct it so that it displays the full SEO page decsription?

  • Hello, I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with your meta title and description not displaying correctly on Google SERP. This can be due to various reasons such as the length of the meta description, unsupported characters, or plugin conflicts.

To address this issue, you can start by ensuring that your SEO meta description is within the recommended character limit of 155 – 160 characters. Additionally, make sure that the characters used are supported by your WordPress theme, device, and browser.

If the issue persists, you can also check for any plugin conflicts that might be affecting the display of your meta title and description. You can refer to this guide to assist in determining if a plugin is causing the problem.

If you’ve already checked these aspects and the issue still persists, please feel free to reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that this issue might have caused.

We can check our plugin is adding the correct title and description that you have set in the snippet editor of our plugin. You can confirm that with this tool: https://rankmath.com/tools/meta-tag-analyzer/

However, Google can choose to display a different title and description. It is a pretty common thing with Google these days. It happens with 70% of the results and we even have a KB dedicated to this problem and a few solutions we recommend:

Please check the KB and you will understand the reasons Google does this:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/

Google has made some changes to their algorithm which automatically changes the titles, discarding the one you have set in your SEO title meta tag. This happens regardless of the SEO plugin you are using. We have covered this Google update here:

    Google Title Rewrite Update: https://rankmath.com/google-update/google-title-rewrite-update/

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
