Hello,
We apologize for the inconvenience you’re experiencing with your sitemap not updating in Google Search Console. We understand the frustration this may cause, but we’re here to help.
To troubleshoot the issue with your sitemap not updating, please follow these steps:
-
Validate Your Sitemap: First, ensure that your sitemap is correctly configured. You can use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to confirm this. Once done, click VALIDATE SITEMAP.

If your sitemap is correctly configured, the tool will return a “No issues detected” success message.
-
Ensure the Sitemap is Located in the Root Folder: If you manually created the sitemap, ensure it is installed in the root folder of your WordPress installation. The correct URL format should be `https://rankmath.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/An-example-of-a-properly-configured-sitemap-2.png
-
Resubmit Your Sitemap in Google Search Console: After fixing the issue with your sitemap, remove your sitemap from Google Search Console and then submit it once again.

-
Flush the Cache: If it looks like your sitemap is outdated, you need to flush the sitemap cache. Navigate to Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings and increase the value of the Links Per Sitemap by one. Then save your settings and navigate to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes to ensure the current settings are applied.

-
Exclude the Sitemap From Caching: Ensure that your sitemap is not being cached by following the steps in this knowledgebase article.
Once you’ve completed these steps, please resubmit your sitemap URL to Google Search Console.
If you’ve followed these steps and are still experiencing issues, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist you further.
We hope this helps resolve the issue with your sitemap not updating. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us.

Hello,
We deeply apologize for the unexpected delay in response. Your previous reply seems to have been stuck in our drafts section for some reason.
We’ve checked your sitemap and we can see it is working properly without any issues. In this case, you can try to remove all the submitted sitemaps from GSC and after clearing your website cache, resubmit only the /sitemap_index.xml
in the Search Console.
However, please note that the ‘Discovered Pages’ tab only shows the number of pages that were discovered using the sitemap, and since the sitemap is not the only tool Google uses to discover pages, the number of ‘Discovered Pages’ might differ from your number of pages on your sitemap. In fact, it could be a good sign, as it means that you have good internal linking that Google does not need a sitemap to find some of your pages.
Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you.
Hello Rakibuzzaman Siam,
Thanks for the reply. As per your recommendations, I have done everything but nothing is giving me any results. The pages are just not getting indexed. I have done it manually, tried Instant Indexing but nothing. All pages Status in analytics shows “Excluded”.
Please tell me what can be done. It is very important.
Thanks,
Ankur B.

Hello,
Apologies for the delay as we currently have a high volume of tickets here in our support forums.
First, your robots.txt is not using a correct format.
To fix this, please separate the Sitemap and its URL into a new line.
Here are our recommended robots.txt rules and what they should look like:
https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-edit-robots-txt-with-rank-math/#default-rules
You may also follow the guide in the same link on how to edit your robots.txt using Rank Math.
Also, you may need to wait for the “Last Read” date in your sitemap screenshot.
Moreover, you should check your Google Search Console coverage section to determine any issues reported on your URLs that may have prevented your site from being indexed:

I have tried this as well. Everything you asked for. But the pages are not even getting indexed. All the pages shows Excluded in the Index Status.
