Username exposed in schema

I have a website where I’m the sole admin and also the sole author of the content. For convenience, I use the same login for both admin work and authoring content. In the past, when I tried to use a different, non-admin login for authoring content, I would sometimes use the wrong one.

Now I find that all the content pages include a link to an author page in the schema. (Sensitive data below.) The URL for this author page includes the username for the author, which is also the username for the admin.

Should I be concerned that this username is exposed in the schema on all the content pages of the website? Is there a way to avoid this, without maintaining separate logins for admin and authoring? For example, can I change the slug for the author page so it doesn’t include the username? Any other suggestions?

  • Hello, I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing with the exposure of your username in the schema on all the content pages of your website. I understand your concern about maintaining separate logins for admin and authoring.

The exposure of your username in the schema can indeed be a security concern. To avoid this, you can change the slug for the author page so it doesn’t include the username. Here’s how you can do that:

    1. In your WordPress Dashboard, navigate to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta → Authors → Author Archives.

    2. Here you can check if the Author Archives are enabled or disabled. If the option is enabled, you can toggle the option to disable it.

    3. Once disabled, you can customize the slug for the author page to remove the username from the URL.

Enable Author archives in Rank Math Titles & Meta

By doing this, you can prevent the exposure of your username in the schema on all the content pages of your website.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask.

I disabled author archives but I can’t see how to change the slug for the author page.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

Please note that the changes made to the author/user slug in the meta box will not work because WordPress doesn’t allow changing the author slug by default.

Moreover, you can change the slug of your author by using a plugin that specifically addresses that like this:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/edit-author-slug/

    Hope that helps.
