Cannot edit robots.txt in Rankmath

    I cannot edit robots.txt in Rankmath. No matter what I do it just says Contents are locked because a robots.txt file is present in the root folder. with or without a robots.txt file in the root.

    The rankmath editor always displays:
    User-agent: *
    Crawl-delay: 2

    If I have a robots.txt in root, rankmath will still simply show the above. The AI chat bot gave me a WordPress filter, rewrite_rule and wp-config snippet to add. Added all and nothing has changed, still getting Contents are locked because a robots.txt file is present in the root folder. with or without a robots.txt in root folder.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

    We explain in this tutorial how you can fix this issue to allow you to edit the file using our plugin: https://rankmath.com/kb/cant-edit-robots-txt/#num-1-presence-of-a-physical-file

    Essentially, you will need to remove the physical file from the root of your domain using cPanel file manager or FTP access.
