Sitemap 404 lately

    Hi,

    Lately RankMath will return 404 for sitemap_index.xml. It gets fixed by flushing the permalinks or resaving the sitemap settings, but I wanna figure out why this is happening. I’ve never had issues with the plugin and I use just a few others that do not interfere.

    I’ve set the Cache Bypass on Cloudflare, I tried the ?sitemap=1 and the page shows up as a blank page. I tried setting up the rewrites for Apache in the .htaccess that didn’t solve anything, same goes for the cache bypass in functions.php which I probably didn’t need but decided to try it anyways.

    What could possibly cause this 404 every week or two now, which requires me to re-save the sitemap settings or permalinks in order to fix it?

    Meanwhile, if your sitemaps are getting fixed upon flushing the sitemap cache, then it must be still cached by your plugin or server caching:

    You may also get in touch with your web host to exclude your sitemaps from being cached.

    We’ve managed to fix it via the rewrites in the .htaccess and the host has set a cron job to see if anything is removing those lines from the .htaccess. I’m on Cloudflare as I have written before and I have followed the instructions and it’s bypassing the cache for sure.
