Incorrect Google Search Titles - Support

Hi there,

I am sure that this might be a quick explanation, but we are trying to work out why the titles of the pages that appear as sub-pages on Google are not correct. See screenshot below:

But if you viewed the same pages in the full listing on Google, the correct title appears. For example, the below image is the correct title for the About Us page whereas in the example above, it comes through as ‘About UsUnder the hood’.

Those links and descriptions appearing under the homepage are called Sitelinks.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to control which links or titles are shown on the search results under the Sitelinks as Google chooses them automatically.

However, you can refer to Google’s guidelines for Sitelinks:

Hi Reinelle,

Thanks so much for getting back to me on this and for sharing the guides. To confirm, how do I change the page titles that appear when the pages are used as ‘Sitelinks’ because they differ to when the pages appear normally. I couldn’t seem to figure that out from the guides you sent. Thanks so much!

Hello,

Thank you for your patience.

The title tag is already set in the page’s source code. You can also use these tools to verify that:

https://rankmath.com/tools/meta-tag-analyzer/

In this case, the best you can do is optimize your meta title and description to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.

Moreover, the Sitelinks are automated based on Google Algorithm, and you may not control it directly:
