Issue with Parent Page Setting and Sitemap Hierarchy - Support

Recently, I have been using the ‘Parent Page’ setting for organizing my web pages. Alongside this, I’ve also generated a sitemap for my site to ensure better navigation and SEO structure and just a few hours ago submitted it to Google search console thanks to your integration.

One thing I’ve observed is that even after activating the ‘Strip Category Base’ setting, the URL still displays the “home” parent page before the actual page I’m navigating to. I’d like to mention that I’ve already navigated to the permalink settings and re-saved “postname” as my preferred structure. Despite this, the issue persists. For instance, the URL structure appears as “xelerage.com/home/page-name” rather than “xelerage.com/page-name”. While I understand the need for hierarchical structure, I’m wondering if there’s a way to:

– Prevent the “home” parent page from appearing in the URL.
– Still maintain the hierarchy in the sitemap for SEO and user navigation purposes.

Also I have noticed that my favicon is not updated in the search results and some deleted pages still show up.

If this is a feature or setting that I might have overlooked, I’d appreciate your guidance on how to set it up correctly. If not, would you have any recommendations or best practices that can help me achieve this structure?

Hello,

The search results you’ve shared are the sitelinks which are currently automated by Google, and there’s nothing we can do from our side to enable those on any website. Here’s the documentation from Google that you can follow to learn more about it: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/sitelinks

Regarding the Strip Category Base option, this only removes the /category/ base from your category URLs which is added from WordPress by default. It doesn’t have any effect on your post URLs as it only works for your categories. However, if you want to remove the /home/ slug from your post URLs then you can try to add the following regex redirection on your website to redirect all the xelerage.com/home/page-name to xelerage.com/page-name:

For the favicon, please note that Rank Math has no control over how the favicon will appear on the SERP. The images on Google SERPs are not controlled via the Schema markup or any plugin, it mostly depends on the keyword search term and the website authority.

You can check these Google guidelines on how to ensure that your favicon is set up to show on the search results page.

Thank you very much for all the useful information. At this point, is it really useful to have parent pages in the website? Does it help Google crawl the website or is it useless and it is better for me to remove them (as in my case the only thing I’ve decided to use them is because I thought they could help add sitelinks)?
