My Category Sitemap returns a 404

    Hi, I have a problem only with the Category sitemap. The Page and Post sitemaps work perfectly and update every time.

    For some time I disabled my Category Sitemap and had my Category pages as no index. This week I did some work on the Category pages and decided to index them, so I changed their state to Index.

    Also I went to RankMath > Sitemap and activated Categories. RankMath says it’s all OK, but the link it gives me goes to an unexisting page.

    I have read everything on the RankMath Support pages about sitemaps and tried it all. It’s not being cached by WP Rocket and I added this code to my snippets
    add_filter( 'rank_math/sitemap/enable_caching', '__return_false');

    But the Category sitemap is nowhere to be found.

    Also, I have a second website with exactly the same configuration and it has no problems with the Category Sitemap.

    The category sitemap is still not appearing in your sitemap index.

    In this case, please follow the steps below for initial troubleshooting:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article: https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

    Hello,

    I did all the steps as shown in the video. And I excluded the sitemap in WP Rocket, plus I added the code you suggest in the htaccess file.

    But still nothing, the category sitemap is not created.

    Any ideas?

    Please head over to your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Post: Categories and from there make sure the Category Archives Robots Meta is set to index:

    If the issue still persists, then we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

    Hi, thank you so much. That fixed the issue.

    I had marked “index” every single category page but I had not switched that RankMath option on.

    At the end the fix was very basic. Thanks again.
