Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math support and we apologize for the inconvenience.
Yes, the alt tags that Rank Math adds are done dynamically. This means that even after publishing your posts, you would still not see alt tags on your WordPress dashboard – you’ll only see the tags when you view the page on the front-end.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation
Thank you.
So they show in the post.
If the post already has alt tags – does rank math overwrite those?
Also – does rank math handle tags?
Hello,
1. Rank Math does not overwrite the alt tags of images if they are already available. It only dynamically generates alt tags for images without one. You can configure the variables that make up the alt tags from the Image SEO settings. First, activate the Image SEO module from Rank Math SEO > Dashboard > Modules. Then go to Rank Math SEO> General Settings > Images and configure as desired. https://rankmath.com/kb/image-seo/
2. Rank Math allows you to manage the on-page SEO of post tags. You can enable the SEO controls for tags from WP Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > Titles & Meta > Tags. If your query was related to something else, please share some details.
Hope that helps. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
Do the tags that are auto-generated only show after posting?
This feature is “on” on our side and we don’t see tags.
How do the tags get generated?
Hello,
The alt can be seen in your page source (for example view-source:yourdomain.com
) with tags like this:
https://prnt.sc/5kCc6aMtG89l
Also, the alt tags should also be visible even if the page is set to draft mode.
The tags are generated with variables and static text to create the ALT attributes. An example of that can be seen here:

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need my assistance with anything else.
Thank you
Unfortunately, within wordpress – I’m not seeing alt tags on drafts that are automatically applied using rank math.
Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place.
Where can I find this?
Hello,
Thank you for getting back to us. We’re sorry for the confusion.
As we mentioned before, Rank Math adds the alt tags dynamically, so you won’t see them in your WordPress editor. To see them, you need to check the page source of your pages.
If your post is still a draft, here’s how you can find the tags:
- Add an image without any tags and save your draft.
- Click on the preview icon and choose “Preview in new tab”.

- Right-click on the page and select “View page source” or press CTRL+U. This will open the page source in a new tab.
- Find the image and look for the tag next to it. Here’s an example of what it looks like:

If you see the tag next to the image URL, then it means Rank Math added it successfully.
We hope this clears things up. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
