Local SEO

    Rank Math free

    Hi,
I am in the sections Titles & Meta > Local SEO
I am configuring RankMath for a client’s website that I will launch in 2 days and lose access to afterwards.

I read the following info by RankMath:
Before configuring the settings here, we highly recommend that you claim your website in Google My Business.
Before setting local SEO in Rank Math, you must have a verified business in GMB or Google Business Profile

I don’t have the time to do this and I am not sure the client wants to do this herself afterwards. She hasn’t verified her business in GMB or Google Business Profile. She said she wants to advertise on Google without having to do any SEO settings herself.

So my question is: How do I now change my settings at the Setup Wizard that selected the website as local business? I chose the category “Small Business”. Do I have to go through the Setup Wizard again (do I lose all my previous settings then?) or can this be changed directly in another section easier?

Can I change it to something generic such as “Organisation”? Or do you recommend anything else? The business is “Dog Training”.

If I do change it, can this be changed again afterwards by the client to “Local Business” if she wants to?
If this happens, would there be any implications or penalties for Google Search Results?

    Thanks
    Mel

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

Please note that the business type option in the Setup Wizard does not significantly affect your ranking and you can change them if needed anytime.

None of the options on this dropdown have an advantage over the others. They just help our plugin to understand your site type and help you with the setup.

Also, you won’t need to go through the Setup Wizard again as you can change it in Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Local SEO. You can select Small Business for now, and change it later to a different type that will suit the website.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the info.

Is the local seo module enabled because of my settings in the Setup Wizard?

If yes, would it be a problem disabling if in the dashboard?

Would disabling it hide other important settings that are required for google ranking?
    If yes, which ones?

If they are setup, would the settings be lost when disabling the module, i.e. would these stored settings remain when enabling them module again?

The local seo settings window has the following info:

Use the [rank_math_contact_info] shortcode to display contact information in a nicely formatted way. – Is this necessary? Where would this shortcode need to be placed?

You should also claim your business on Google if you have not already. – Is this an absolute (legal?) requirement for local seo?

    Thanks!

I have just tested disabling the local seo feature in the dashboard, but it still remains under titles and meta. What is happening here?

    Hello,

Is the local seo module enabled because of my settings in the Setup Wizard?
If yes, would it be a problem disabling if in the dashboard?

No, it would not be a problem, but all the data from the Email address field up to the last fields below will be disabled/removed from your site. Rank Math will not include them in your website’s schema as well.

When you configure the Local SEO settings, Rank Math will add the necessary metadata to your website for Google to recognize your website as a local business website, and Google will start showing your website in the SERPs for searches relating to your business.

You can learn more about the Local SEO fields in this guide and how it affects your website ranking:

If they are setup, would the settings be lost when disabling the module, i.e. would these stored settings remain when enabling them module again?

Yes, the data you have entered here are already stored. So, when you enable the module again, those data will still be present.

The shortcode [rank_math_contact_info] can be placed on your About page or footer. This helps websites to display the address (with Google Maps) and contact information on the front end.
