Can you please confirm if you have some tags that are set as Noindex? The sitemap generation works like this:
1. Check the full number of tags on the website and generate the number of sub-sitemaps necessary to accommodate all the tags if they meet the conditions to show in the sitemap.
2. Check if the tag meets the condition to get added to the sitemap and add it in case it’s true.
So the sub-sitemaps are generated based on the total number of the tags you have and if some of the tags are set as Noindex then they will be excluded from the sitemaps and it can sometimes make some sub-sitemaps empty and that’s why they are not being read by Google.
We are already working on improving the sitemap generation and avoiding the empty sitemaps when the tags or post types are set to Noindex. For now, please increase the links per sitemap in the Sitemap Settings of our plugin to make sure that each generated sitemap includes some tag URLs.

Vielen Dank für die Antwort, aber …
– Die https://www.schmunzeln.net/post_tag-sitemap1.xml wird immer noch nicht erstellt, obwohl beim Reiter “Schlagwörter” und dort bei “Leere Begriffe einbeziehen” auf aus/off gestellt ist und leere Schlagwörter somit nicht in den Sitemaps erscheinen bzw. aufgenommen werden.
Natürlich habe ich auch alle Caches bei Cache-Plugins geleert bzw. neu erstellen lassen.
Somit ist das Problem weiterhin vorhanden.
– Pro Sitemap habe ich 2005 Links enthalten. Ist das eventuell zu viel?

We would recommend setting the number of links per sitemap to something more manageable (between 200 and 500 links) and also making sure that you don’t have the option to set empty archive pages to noindex enabled in the Titles & Meta settings of our plugin.
After making those changes you should be able to see the post tags appearing in the sitemap as expected.
