When I activate Rank Math it automatically includes scripts on every page that refer to the youtube website. This is a DSGVO (GDPR) nightmare. How do I disable these external links?
    Thanks in advance
    Timo

Thank You Reinelle, here’s the link to the script that is included by RankMath and refers to YouTube:

    Hello,

    Thank you for that information.

Upon checking the script you shared, the code you are referring to only shows up when you are logged in to your website. If you check the page source in incognito (Google Chrome) without logging in, you will see that the code doesn’t appear in the page source of the front end.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

I checked this from a fresh (incognito) chrome installation:

    Hello,

We’re unable to replicate this issue in our test installs.

However, upon checking the site connected to your account where the issue persists, it seems that you’re using Rank Math PRO plugin but the account you have used to open this ticket is the Rank Math free version.

Can you please search and forward a receipt from FastSpring.com or the email address you used to purchase so we can locate your account and verify it?

Please note that we don’t offer support for nulled or cracked plugins as we explain here: https://rankmath.com/kb/rank-math-pro-nulled/

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hi Reinelle,

the site I’m referring to is http://www.smart-moments.com
I’m using the official UNCRACKED free version of Rank Math – downloaded through wordpress plugin installation routine. I had and have NO ACCESS to Pro features. So please re-check before assuming I’m cheating on software developers.

The shown script appears in my cookie banner scanner (checking for critical external links), when I activate the free version RankMath on all pages within my site. If I deactivate the free Version the script is not shown by my cookie banner scanner any more.

I assume that it is a script provided by RankMath since it’s full with RankMath references. I would also assume that you as sw developers are aware where your own scripts come from. In fact I don’t mind if a script comes with the PlugIn – I just would like to know how to disable the URL referrers to youtube since this is GDPR relevant.

    Thanks again for your help.
    Timo

    Hello,

Those scripts are only added to the backend of your website so they are not visible to any of your visitors, hence compliant with the GDPR guidelines.

These are loaded in the Titles & Meta settings screen in the backend and the URLs you are seeing are linking to tutorials related to settings in that section of the plugin.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Hi Miguel,

as far as I’m aware your statement “hence compliant with the GDPR guidelines” is most likely wrong. Vertainly in the German DSGVO every link to an external ressource needs to be qualified. Certainly when these were related to US American destination (e.g. YouTube). So if my GDPR Scanner finds them – they are relevant (based on my legal knowledge)!

So my initial question remains: is there a way to turn these “Tutorial Links” of? Or is there something I can do to not have them included in my website?

    Thanks in advance, Timo

    Hello,

There is no way to remove those because they link to helpful resources related to each of the settings and they also only appear in the backend.

Regarding GDPR/DSGVO that doesn’t apply to admin area pages as the directives from the European Union only relate to publicly available pages, which the one this is included is not hence being perfectly compliant.

In fact, as soon as you use any WordPress plugin you’ll get plenty of pages to external resources from every single plugin and even from WordPress in the backend, besides that having YouTube links on any website is not a breach of GDPR, even if they were in the public pages, which they aren’t.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
