Can’t upload or edit Media Library with RankMath Activated

    Rank Math free

    Hi team,

When I activate the RankMath SEO plugin, I am unable to upload new pieces of media to my wp site. When I turn RankMath off, I have no issue.

I’m sure it’s a common issue and a change to settings but couldn’t find anything obvious in the knowledge base.

    Have any ideas?

    Thank you
    Chris

  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Here is a video you can follow as well:

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

If the issue persists, please record a video screencast using a tool like Loom showing the troubleshooting and edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

We see the issue on your site but we couldn’t reproduce it on our setup. Can you please add your site’s FTP access in the Sensitive Data Section so we can debug this issue by editing some plugin files?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi team,

We don’t have FTP set up. Are you able to access the permissions directly from WP File Manager?

    Hello,

We might need the FTP access so we can revert any changes immediately in case an unexpected issue comes up and bring the site back up.

You can get in touch with your web host to help you create FTP access on your site and add it to the sensitive data section.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thank you for sharing the FTP access. It looks like Rank Math’s Exclude Attachment feature is causing the problem on your site. The Media files loads fine after removing this line: https://github.com/rankmath/seo-by-rank-math/blob/master/includes/modules/sitemap/class-admin.php#L53

After enabling the WP_DEBUG, following error was logged in the debug.log file:
[31-Mar-2023 05:50:27 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function wp_required_field_message() in /nas/content/live/outlierapp/wp-admin/includes/media.php:2033

To me, it looks like your server’s memory is getting exhausted and it fails to load the Core media files completely. Can you please try updating the WordPress to the latest version and increasing the following values on your server:
    PHP memory limit
    Upload max filesize
    PHP time limit

    I hope that helps.
