    Hello *5/6/20

The issue I had last month apparently never went away. I Google Search Console is reporting I have 429 affected pages that are marked “no index” I can’t for the life of me figure out what setting is doing this, can you please help? Here are some snippets from the source code from multiple pages. My email from last month below still applies to this issue.

    As NoIndex<li id=’wp-admin-bar-rank-math-no-follow’ class=”mark-page-as”>

    As NoIndex<li id=’wp-admin-bar-rank-math-no-follow’ class=”mark-page-as”>
    <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex, follow”/>

    <span class=”dashicons dashicons-yes” style=”font-family: dashicons; font-size: 19px;”></span>As NoIndex

    Hi,

I received an error from Google search console stating my sitemap Submitted URL is marked ‘noindex’ which is affecting every page on my website.

I did some digging & reading through multiple tickets before posting this. With my limited understanding when it comes to coding, tags and headers. I found the following on my affected web pages:

    <li id=”wp-admin-bar-rank-math-no-index” class=”mark-page-as”>As NoIndex

    As NoIndex

Is this basically telling me that Rank Math has somehow impacted all of my website pages with the “noindex” tag thus the reason why Google crawlers are giving me an error saying that my site isn’t being indexed? Where can I turn the indexing on in the settings? I must have something checked that shouldn’t be. I’ve cleared the cache on my end, contacted my hosting provider and they say everything on their end is fine and it must be a plugin.

    Thank you!

    Hi Terrym

    Hello Terry,

Thank you for contacting us again.

It is a pretty common mistake to open the page source and search for a noindex tag to see if the page is marked as noindex or not. Especially when logged in WordPress.

In your case, you saw the mention of noindex and assumed that the page is set as noindex.

    <code><li id='wp-admin-bar-rank-math-no-index' class="mark-page-as"><a class='ab-item' href='#noindex'>As NoIndex</a></li></code>

You can try and search the same code after logging out or in an incognito window and would not see that tag.

The actual noindex tag is added like this:
    <code><meta name="robots" content="noindex"/></code>

But, the one you mentioned in your post refers to the No Index option that Rank Math offers in the admin menu bar.
    null

You can confirm the presence (or absence) of the actual robots noindex tag on this 3rd party website: https://smallseotools.com/meta-tags-analyzer/

Regarding the Google Search Console notice, could you please share some page URLs listed in that report, so I can check if noindex tag is present in those pages or not?

Also, if the plugin is disabled, can you please ask your hosting to create a staging site so we can debug this faster for you and personally set the plugin up for you?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi Terry,

On your staging website, I do not see a robots noindex tag that would prevent Google or other bots from indexing your product URL.

I have shared some screenshots in the sensitive data section that you can check.

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Todd,

I just replied in the sensitive data section. I ran two URL inspections of my sitemap one with Rank Math deactivated and one with it activated. You’ll see my notes but I get an error regarding no indexing from GSC when Rank Math is activated. Hopefully my notes help.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

The sitemap file is always marked noindex since no one would like the sitemap file being listed on the SERP.
Could you please perform another URL test for one of your post links when Rank Math is activated?

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi Michael,

I submitted two of the many site links per your request and it appears that they can be indexed which is awesome and I have Rank Math activated. Perhaps Google was having issues because the only thing I did was deactivate Rank Math and reactivated it, so I’m not sure. I have two questions at this point.

It looks like my pages were last crawled on March 26, almost 50 days ago which is obviously bad for me, how do I get Google to index my entire site again as I’m now getting an error about my sitemap being an HTML page??? Please see my 2 questions below.

    1) I’m not getting an error is GSC for my sitemap that says “Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.”

    2) Can you PLEASE check my settings in Rank and let me know if they’re optimal? I will just mimic any changes you suggest in my staging and carry over to my production site as I’ve walked through the settings at least 8 times and I sort of gave up after I couldn’t get anything to work, but if there’s any sugguestions you have, that would be awesome.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

I have checked your sitemap and it seems fine. Make sure you are only adding to the Google Search Console the sitemap_index.xml file, not any other.

About your settings, I have checked them and all of them seem alright so you should have any trouble with them.

    Looking forward to help you.
